What to send us
The more we can see at the outset, the more useful the first conversation is. Depending on the matter, that usually means:
- Trust matters. The original trust deed and every variation since, together with a note of what you are trying to achieve.
- Estate planning. Any existing will and powers of attorney, and a broad picture of what is owned personally, through trusts, through companies and in superannuation.
- Commercial matters. The agreement or draft in question, and the commercial background to it.
- Construction and property. The contract, the correspondence and the dates that matter.
If you are not sure what is relevant, send what you have and we will tell you what else we need.
Working with accountants and financial advisers
A large part of our work comes to us through accountants and financial advisers, and we are comfortable working alongside them. We give the legal advice and prepare the documents. Your adviser keeps the relationship and the compliance work. Where a step has a tax outcome your accountant will have to live with, we would rather talk it through with them before anything is documented.
If you are an adviser with a client matter, contact us directly and we will deal with you as the point of contact unless you would prefer otherwise.
Fees
We work on a fixed fee basis. The fee is quoted and confirmed in writing before work begins, so you know what the matter costs before you commit to it rather than after. Where the scope of a matter changes materially, we agree a revised fee before continuing.
Contacting us does not create a lawyer and client relationship, and information sent before we have confirmed we can act may not be treated as confidential. Please do not send anything sensitive until we have confirmed engagement.
